There remains for us only the very narrow way, often extremely difficult to find, of living every day as though it were our last, and yet living in faith and responsibility as though there were to be a great future...

Complaint: ATT U-Verse DNS Servers

My biggest complaint about AT&T; U-Verse is the DNS servers. Of late, they seem to be operating slowly, or at least the RG (Residential Gateway) is not processing requests very quickly. I’m unhappy that I can’t put my own DNS server choices into the RG. It would be nice, for example, to have OpenDNS servers configured, so I can restrict some of the sites (I have young children). I’m not sure why they couldn’t still have their own servers for the TV service, while allowing the Internet part of the gateway to have its own servers for computers.

My only potential solution is to run another router off the RG and configure that router to send my custom DNS choices via DHCP. Not exactly pretty, but it should work. Maybe one day I’ll have the option of configuring DNS in the RG.
