It has been a long time since I’ve heard music this good. “In Christ Alone” is a CD by modern hymn writers Keith and Kristyn Getty. My CD arrived in the mail a couple of days ago. I am very, very impressed with it. I bought it from Family Christian stores, because it comes with a bonus DVD, which has interviews and some video clips of their songs.
One of the things that impressed me from the DVD interviews, and listening to the lyrics of the songs, is that they have a deep respect for singing Biblical truth without the “fluff” that so much of today’s Christian music seems to have. Not to say that I don’t like some contemporary artists, but there is a large difference between a hymn and a gospel song. Hymns exalt God for who He is; other types of Christian music tend to use the pronoun “I” more often, and are more focused on us. So if you are tired of the “God is my boyfriend” types of themes presented in some of modern CCM, you really need to give the Getty’s work a close look.
My favorite songs are “There is a Higher Throne”, “Hear the Call of the Kingdom”, “In Christ Alone”. I like all the songs. The songs are done in a way that appeals to people of all ages.
If I was in ministry right now, I’d be trying to figure out how to book them for a Sunday service.
