There remains for us only the very narrow way, often extremely difficult to find, of living every day as though it were our last, and yet living in faith and responsibility as though there were to be a great future...

OpenDNS

I’ve been using OpenDNS for the last week. This service is a free, open DNS server system which claims to be faster than using ISP DNS servers. I do seem to notice a little increase in resolution speed (web page content will not download faster). There are other benefits, like redirecting a mistyped URL, to avoid going to a phishing or malicious website.

I’ve also programmed the servers into my mobile phone, and use those servers instead of the Cingular ones. It seems to make a small difference.

All you have to do is edit your TCP/IP properties in the network adapter, and put these servers in:

208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220

Then, go to http://welcome.opendns.org, and if you get the checkmark and a congratulations message, you will know you are using the OpenDNS system.

The beauty of this system is that it is so easy to set up, and then forget about.
