There remains for us only the very narrow way, often extremely difficult to find, of living every day as though it were our last, and yet living in faith and responsibility as though there were to be a great future...

Fewest dropped calls

Cingular mentions in their ads that they have the fewest dropped calls in their network. I find that I rarely drop a call here in New England. However, today I had one, and it was on Rt. 20 in CT, right before getting onto I-91. When I had AT&T; wireless (just after they merged with Cingular), I used to get a dropped call in the same spot almost 50% of the time. What I’m thinking, is that the phone was in UMTS mode, and then flipped over to GSM mode after dropping the call. I would imagine I moved out of range of the one cellular tower that has UMTS (which I think must be at the airport).

As far as I can tell, UMTS coverage in Windsor Locks centers around the airport, and goes up a little ways into Suffield on Rt. 75, and the is gone. It goes as far on Rt. 20 as Old County Road, and then disappears. I do not know how far west the signal goes.

Hopefully there will be more towers built with UMTS around here soon, and the handoffs will be fixed so there will be less dropped calls when dropping back to the 2.5G system.
