There remains for us only the very narrow way, often extremely difficult to find, of living every day as though it were our last, and yet living in faith and responsibility as though there were to be a great future...

Question on systems engineering of audio filters

Maybe someone who knows this field well can help me with this question: If it is true that a simple low or high pass filter behaves as a first-order system, then do we just live with the phase delays that are introduced, or are there ways of compensating for this? How are equalizers designed to be able to filter effectively without introducing delays?
