There remains for us only the very narrow way, often extremely difficult to find, of living every day as though it were our last, and yet living in faith and responsibility as though there were to be a great future...

Intelligent Message Filter for Exchange Service Pack 2

With a company like mine, where my e-mail address has been given out to so many people, I decided that with the changeover to the new server, I had to enable Intelligent Message Filtering again. I’m getting over 100 e-mails/day, mostly spam. I’m wasting way too much time deleting junk.

With Exchange Service Pack 2 for Exchange Server 2003, all you need to do to enable IMF is to start the System Manager, go to Servers -> your servername -> Protocols -> Default SMTP Server. Right click, select properties, and then click on the advanced button in the window that pops up. There is a check box for “Apply Intelligent Message Filtering”.

Then, go to Global Settings in System Manager, right click on “Message Delivery”, and click properties. There is a tab in the window that pops up, where you can set your spam levels. I also set mine to “reject”, instead of archive.

I also use lower numbers, which might mean that a good message might occasionally get flagged as spam and deleted. Do I care? No, if someone wants to do business with me, they will call. I’m willing to lose a good message once in awhile if I don’t have to continually prune my mailbox.
